NREA - Announcement of the Brzrzinski Award
STANLEY A. BRZEZINSKI MEMORIAL RURAL EDUCATION RESEARCH AWARD

In order to recognize outstanding, high quality research in the field of rural education, the National Rural Education Association sponsors the Stanley A. Brzezinski Memorial Rural Education Research Award. This award, funded by the Brzezinski family, will be awarded for educational research which addresses significant rural issues and makes notable contributions to the knowledge base of rural education. Research addressing rural education issues is paramount to the selection process. All rural education researchers are eligible to be nominated or to self-nominate for the award. The research could include, but is not limited to, issues of rural school efficiency and effectiveness, rural students’ learning and development, financing rural schools, rural poverty, the rural economy, student/rural community expectations, understanding the diversity of rural administrators, or alternative instructional and organizational patterns for rural education. The research project judged most meritorious will receive the award and the author will be recognized at the NREA national convention in San Antonio, Texas, on October 27-29, 2008.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
Initially electronically submit a packet that includes the following:
- Biographical and directory information for the author, including name address, telephone numbers, and email address.
- Digital copy of a 500 – 1000 word summary of the research. ( the length excludes length of reference list)
- Digital abstract of 500 words or less that supports the quality of the research.
- Copies of publications, reports, or other documentation produced from the research.
- A statement of agreement with NREA to publicize the research through media consistent with association purposes. NREA imposes no infringement in the researcher’s copyright or other publication efforts.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Significance of the study to rural education. (30 points)
- Contribution to knowledge. (30 points)
- Thoroughness of research (20 points)
- Research design. (10 points)
- NREA membership. (10 points)
RESERVATIONS:
- Selection, rejection, and judging are the reserved rights of the NREA Research Committee. The Research committee reserves the option of making appropriate inquires on any study submitted.
- NREA assumes the privilege of reproducing all or a portion of the research in the Rural Educator or other professional venues.
- NREA reserves the right to acknowledge the researcher’s application to the agency or institution with which the research is associated.
- A researcher may receive this award only once within a five year period.
