2005 Dissertation Award

The Rural Ed SIG seeks nominations for its 3rd Annual Dissertation Award. At least one-quarter of American schoolchildren live in rural communities. The AERA SIG in Rural Education seeks to promote and recognize rigorous research among emerging scholars that can influence policies and practices related to the educational lives of these children. The winner of the award will be recognized at the Rural SIG reception at the Annual AERA Meeting in April, 2005 in Montréal.

Eligibility: Doctoral dissertations completed between September 1, 2002 and August 31, 2004.

The awards committee will accept nominations from any research tradition in curriculum, teaching, learning, educational policy and related areas in which the rurality of the research context is conceptualized in the dissertation's design and report of findings.

The nomination must include the dissertation author’s current contact information (including postal address, phone, email address, current higher education and work affiliation) and, if different, the nominee's contact information. In addition, the nomination must provide the name of institution and date of the award of the doctoral degree.

Please send (1) letter of nomination, (2) an unbound copy of the of the dissertation text and (3) an electronic version on 3” computer disk or CD-ROM by February 15, 2005 to the Award Committee Co-Chair. Materials submitted become the property of the awards committee and cannot be returned to the author or nominator.
