AERA Rural Education SIG Call for Proposals Invite 2012
Dear Rural Educators,
On behalf of the Rural Education SIG, I'd like to invite you to submit proposals for the 2012 Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association, to be held April 13-18 in Vancouver, BC. The Rural Education SIG welcomes submissions concerning any aspect of education that is situated in rural contexts.
The number of paper sessions allotted to each SIG is based on the number of submissions it receives, so please consider submitting to the Rural Education SIG. In order to become a member of the Rural Education SIG, one must be a member of AERA. You can join the Rural SIG at the same time that you renew or begin your AERA membership. AERA has implemented a new membership database and management system. The internet component provides full e-commerce so that members may renew and/or join at any time online.
The deadline for submissions is July 22. To submit a proposal, log in at http://www.aera.net and select "SIG: Rural Education."
We also encourage you to volunteer to be a chair or discussant for Rural Education SIG sessions. To volunteer, log in at http://www.aera.net by August 31.

Peer Reviewers Needed for Next Investing in Innovation (i3) Grant Competition
The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Innovation and Improvement (OII) supports innovative practices that are demonstrated to have an impact on improving student achievement. OII is currently seeking individuals to serve as peer reviewers for the newly announced FY 2011 Investing in Innovation (i3) Fund grant competition. The Call for Peer Reviewers may be found on the i3 website at:

Peer reviewers may come from various backgrounds and professions including: PK-12 teachers and principals, college and university educators, educational evaluators, social entrepreneurs, strategy consultants, grant makers and managers, and others with education expertise. The selected reviewers must have expertise in at least one of the program’s five absolute priorities or in educational evaluation:
i3 Absolute Priorities
· Supporting Effective Teachers and Principals
· Promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education
· Implementing Standards and Assessments
· Turning Around Low Performing Schools
· Improving Achievement in Rural LEA’s
OR
Educational Evaluation
Experience in designing, conducting, and reviewing rigorous educational evaluations, including:
· Understanding of education research and recent findings of the relevant literature
· Knowledge of education data sources and measures of program implementation and outcomes
· Expertise with experimental and quasi-experimental research designs
· Fluency in reviewing organizational and project evaluation plans and evaluation results
Additionally, the most qualified candidates will also have expertise in one or more of the following attributes or skills: program or organizational innovation, experience disseminating or scaling successful programs, and prior experience reviewing or approving grant applications.
