Call for Applicants
Editors' Mentoring Roundtable Session
For Early-Career Scholars
2006 AERA Annual Meeting
Organizer: Elaine Chan, OISE, University of Toronto
Closed Session: This session is open only to those who have applied in advance and prepared the necessary materials for participation.
What It's About: AERA and its Publications Committee are once again holding an AERA-wide Editors' Mentoring Roundtable Session at the Annual Meeting for early-career scholars who are working on a paper aimed at journal publication. (For purposes of this session, early-career scholars include advanced doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and scholars currently holding their first research or academic position.)
Each participant will meet with an editor to receive feedback on his or her paper. The session will last for 1? hours, of which approximately 45 minutes will be devoted to individual feedback for each participant. Each editor has agreed to accept two participants for a single roundtable session.
How to Apply: Potential applicants should select an editor whose area of expertise is appropriate for their paper from the list of journal editors below and contact that editor with a description of their paper and their general research interests. Applicants also need to provide name, institution, and contact information, including e-mail address. (Note: Participation with the editor of a particular journal does not imply that the paper will be submitted to that journal or that it will be accepted, if submitted.) To be considered, an application to the editor must be received by Friday February 3, 2006 (updated deadline).
Each editor will contact applicants by Wednesday, February 15, 2006, to let them know whether their paper is a good match with his or her expertise and whether they have been selected to participate. If selected to participate, applicants must send their paper to the appropriate editor no later than Friday, March 24, 2006. Space is limited; acceptance requires a commitment by applicants to prepare and send their papers to their editor-mentor by this date.
